Lead intelligence for exterior painting

Year built, weather exposure, exterior material, property value — all on every property card before you knock. Find the homes that need repainting before they look like they need repainting.

The short version

Exterior painting is a roughly 7-12 year recurring trade depending on climate, paint quality, and exposure. CurbSight scores every property in your territory by year_built (proxy for last major exterior work), exterior_material (when present in county records), and weather exposure. Painting is a less storm-acute trade than roofing or siding, but the property-intelligence approach to lead qualification works the same way.

What painting reps deal with

  • The visible signal of needing paint (peeling, fading) is also the signal that the homeowner is already aware — by then they're shopping
  • Pre-shopping intelligence is the moat — getting to homeowners 6 months before they call three painters
  • Old wood exteriors in older neighborhoods are the prime market — but driving every street to find them is slow
  • Property value gating matters — painting jobs run $4,000-12,000+ depending on home size

How CurbSight helps

Year built and remodel data
Homes 7-12 years past their last major exterior work (year_remodeled, or year_built when remodel is null) are prime candidates.
Exterior material from county records
Wood, stucco, hardiboard, vinyl — different repaint cycles. Filter to the materials you specialize in.
Weather exposure
Properties in zips with frequent UV-extreme summers, freeze-thaw winters, or storm activity age exterior paint faster — surface those zones.
Property value scoring
Filter to the value bands where your average job size is profitable.

WHAT TO SAY
I noticed your home was built in the early 60s — wood exteriors from that era usually need a fresh coat every 8-10 years. When was the last time it was painted?

Common questions

Does CurbSight know when the home was last painted?
No — that's not in public records. We surface year_built and any recorded remodel as proxies. The conversation at the door confirms the actual repaint date.
Can I filter by interior painting too?
v1 leans heavily on exterior signals because that's what public records support. Interior painting leads are usually inbound (referral, search) rather than territory prospecting. CurbSight is primarily a territory-prospecting tool, so interior-only painting may not be the best fit.
